From Office Manager to AV Pro—with 6 Grandkids in Tow

Sometimes, you don’t find the industry—the industry finds you. That was exactly the case for this month’s spotlighted team member, Demetrius, who went from office manager to full-on AV technician in a single site visit. “I just started hooking things up and managing wires while the owner was still talking to the client,” he recalls. “Let’s just say I didn’t go back to the office after that.”
Today, his passion lies in whole-home projects, transforming each space from bare bones to beautifully integrated systems. “It’s my favorite kind of work,” he says. “I love being able to say we entered a room one way and left it another.”
What drives him day to day? Building relationships with clients over the course of an install—and doing it all while balancing a rich family life. A fun fact? He has six grandkids and loves spending time with them, along with hanging out with his son and going on dates with his wife.
His superpower of choice would be speed—because in this industry, every second counts. And while he’s constantly moving, he’s also constantly learning. One of his favorite reads? Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, paired with a powerful Maya Angelou quote: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.”
