5 Simple Ways to Improve Your Home Office

5-simple-ways-to-improve-your-home-office

As technology continues to improve, work-from-home jobs are becoming much more prevalent and popular. It sounds fun and easy when you’re stuck in a corporate office all day, but working from home can bring it’s own set of challenges.

Here are five tips for creating the perfect home office:

Home Office Improvement Tip #1: Find your space.

First things first, you have to find a dedicated office space. If you don’t, it gets hard to “leave” work. Decide what room in your house would make the best office. You’re going to be spending a lot of time in there, so don’t necessarily settle for a small corner in your bedroom or a section of the basement. Choose a room you enjoy spending time in.

Bonus tip: We recommend choosing a room with big windows and lot’s of natural light.

Home Office Improvement Tip #2: Don’t scrimp on technology.

If this is your full-time office, you need a reliable and up-to-date computer, printer and other AV equipment to run your business and connect with people. If you don’t have what you need to work, you’ll find yourself back in a traditional office pretty quickly.

Home Office Improvement Tip #3: Get a good chair.

It’s hard to focus if you aren’t comfortable and don’t have good back support. An ergonomic office chair may seem like a luxury, but serious health issues can surface if you sit in a bad chair all day, every day.

Home Office Improvement Tip #4: Make it feel inviting.

An office can sometimes feel boring, dark and somewhat sterile. It doesn’t have to! Add art, real plants and other touches that fit your personality. Make it a space that is designed to feel like a part of your home.

Home Office Improvement Tip #5: Light it up.

You may not think about it much, but lighting is an important part of focus and productivity too. If your lighting is too intense, it can give you a headache. If it’s too dim, it can make your eyes tired. If you have a window, open the blinds and let the sunlight in. Buy a small lamp to set on your desk so you’re not always relying on overhead lighting.
