Creating the Best Meeting Room Lighting for Video Conferencing

See Everyone in Their Best Light!

When looking into creating the optimal video conferencing solutions for hybrid meetings, it seems appropriate to focus on the smart cameras, beamforming microphones, and 4K UHD displays, the technology that takes a meeting from distracting and disjointed to productive and collaborative.

Because of this, one essential feature is often left out: the lighting that ensures a positive experience for remote and in-person participants. With the right lighting, everyone can clearly see each other and any shared content. If you have the wrong lighting instead, the glare and shadows can be distracting, making it difficult to focus fully on who’s speaking and the presentation they may be sharing.

To ensure the optimal experience, it’s essential to consider meeting room lighting for your Plano, TX, and Dallas-Fort Worth business. At Texadia Systems, we help companies transform their hybrid workforce and video conferencing into dynamic and engaging connections. Here, we’ll explore the role of light in this drive to excellence.

The Type of Lighting

For many years, linear fluorescent light sources were the go-to for meeting rooms, providing controllable, even light. As LED lighting and its benefits became more apparent, these spaces began transitioning away from the bold white lights of fluorescent to the more natural illumination of LED fixtures.

In addition to natural lighting, these fixtures offer greater energy efficiency, a longer lifespan, and reduced heat dissipation. Their uniform light levels provide a consistent color temperature that doesn’t degrade over time. Many LED lights also possess a CRI of 90 or higher. A high color rendering index ensures lights that illuminate objects in their truest form.

The Placement of Lighting

Cameras used in video conferencing don’t see the same way our eyes do. They require proper lighting to work optimally and, when lighting is not at its best, can produce images with dark shadows or oversaturation that results in distortion and unnatural skin tones.

Strategically placed fixtures that support vertical lighting create uniform illumination. A suitable combination of vertical and horizontal indirect lighting helps bring out the best in participants and their surroundings, preventing washouts and oversaturation.

The light’s intensity is also essential in creating the ideal setting. For instance, some conference rooms benefit from indirect lighting at 20% maximum, wall-wash lighting at 30%, and recessed lighting at 10%.

As the creative director at Webex BY Cisco, Josh Gillick, said, “We are trying to eliminate all of the distractions, all of the things in the way of you and I talking to each other face to face. Improving your lighting, improving the space around you as best you can is one of those elements that helps do that.”

Are you ready to maximize the effectiveness of your video conferencing rooms? Texadia Systems is here to help. Not only do we create impressive, customized audio-video solutions, but we also provide the ideal lighting that’s managed via one-touch control.
