OpenPath’s Touchless Access Control: An All-New Approach

Wave Your Hand & Walk Right Through the Door

What if you could implement access control without requiring everyone to touch fingerprint readers, pin pads, and door handles? With OpenPath, you’ll no longer need to touch anything to open doors in your business!

What is OpenPath? OpenPath was recently acquired by Motorola. It is a new access control system that allows users to unlock doors with a wave of their hand—and nothing else. No key-turning, tapping, scanning, or entering information. And if your company has automatic doors and elevators, once you wave your hand, they open instantly.

We’re excited to follow OpenPath’s future and share it with businesses in the Dallas, TX area. So how does OpenPath access control work? Read on to find out!

How OpenPath Works

Imagine a person walking up to your business’s entrance, waving their hand over a reader, and like magic, the door opens. How did that happen? OpenPath’s reader senses hand gestures up to a few inches away, and its Wave to Unlock feature triggers authentication requests with a user’s smartphone. Even if your phone is in your bag or pocket, the reader automatically checks in over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or BLE. So even if the internet is down, it still connects!

OpenPath readers know your phone is close by, so as you approach and wave, it is ready to unlock instantly. Wave to Unlock offers a quicker, frictionless walk-through experience compared to many other access control technologies. All you need to carry is your phone, but you don’t have to open it and swipe to a QR code or find an app. Just walk right through!

Conveniently Cloud-Based

If you’re looking for a smart, simple way to manage access control, OpenPath’s cloud-based system gives administrators remote management capabilities that can be accessed anywhere. You’ll see real-time data on the interface and can create or revoke user credentials anytime.

The Flexible Lockdown solution allows you to automatically lock or unlock all doors in an emergency and send real-time alerts to staff in the system. Your security team can even create multiple lockdown plans to instantly activate via smartphone, so campus-wide safety is only a press of a button away.

The Benefits of Hands-Free Entry

As we move back into normalcy and businesses return to their offices, many people are still concerned about hand-to-hand contact and spreading illnesses. Door handles, keypads, and biometric readers are some of the most touched surfaces in commercial spaces. By adopting a touchless system like OpenPath, everyone can open doors without dashing to find hand sanitizer afterward.

Plus, Wave to Unlock is a seamless, speedy experience that is a much more efficient form of access control than other methods. People won’t have to dig in their wallets for a card or enter a code. They’ll just breeze through the door or turnstile with a small wave, bringing ease and fun to commercial security.
