1. LED Bulbs Last Longer
LED lights generate much less heat than incandescent or CFL bulbs, letting them shine for up to 60,000 hours before needing to be replaced. That’s 133 times longer than incandescent and 10 times longer than compact fluorescent (spiral-shaped) bulbs. This means you’ll replace LED light bulbs much less frequently, reducing consumption and waste.
2. They Use Less Energy
LEDs use much less power than other light bulb models—up to 75 percent less electricity, in fact! This is because LED lights apply 95% of their energy usage into producing light, so only 5% of power is burned off as heat. By comparison, incandescent bulbs only use 2% of their energy to create light—wasting 98 percent of the electricity they consume!
3. LED’s Directional Light Emissions
If you look at a LED light, you’ll notice that they only emit light 180 degrees in a forward direction. The light doesn't extend to the back end of the bulb like you’ll see with incandescent and CFL lights. No energy is wasted on pointlessly illuminating behind the bulb, only to the front.
4. They Can Be Dimmed
LED lights are fully dimmable, and with a sophisticated fixture like those by DMF Lighting or Ketra, you can dim your lights as low as one percent brightness. Dimming also reduces energy consumption and extends your light bulb’s lifespan. So if you prefer cozy, dim lighting anyway, LED lights offer a win-win installation.
5. Fixtures Can Be Automated to a Schedule
With a smart lighting system, you can automate your LED lights to follow your daily routines. If you leave the house at 8:30 every day, lights across the whole house can turn off automatically, so no bulb is accidentally left on to waste electricity. If you departed in a hurry and forgot to turn off a light? A smart home system allows you to pull out your phone and remotely turn off lights with a quick tap of a button.
Want to save even more energy? Motion sensors can tell indoor or outdoor lights to turn off in unoccupied areas, so you never waste electricity where it isn’t needed. LED light fixtures’ smart possibilities offer endless ways to save energy automatically.
