Experience Lighting Control with a Dedicated Smart System

Why DIY Smart Lighting Doesn’t Measure Up to Professional Control Systems

Once you’ve experienced smart lighting at home, it’s hard to go back to the standard on/off light switch. With smart lighting, you can bathe rooms in any color and brightness imaginable, from the coziest candlelight hue to fun nightlife colors.

Many homeowners are tempted to DIY smart lighting with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi-connected smart bulbs from Amazon or Best Buy. But they may be unaware that for seamless control and automation—even from miles away—you need a sophisticated smart system like Lutron or Control4

What’s the difference between a dedicated lighting system and DIY smart lights? We’ll compare both below, so you know what to expect for your lighting control

The Limitations of DIY Smart Lighting

What do we mean by DIY? We’re talking about Wi-Fi-enabled LEDs that don’t use a control system or hub but instead connect individually to a phone app or remote. While off-the-shelf smart bulbs are incredibly easy to install yourself, your options will be much more limited than a centralized lighting system.

For example, if you want to sync lights across the house and program automated scenes like “Morning,” it will require complex programming. Also, store-bought systems aren’t that sophisticated. True smart systems allow you to sync smart lights with other technology, like thermostats, motorized shades, audio, and security devices. With DIY solutions, there’s no way to integrate third-party devices to work together.

DIY also limits how you can control LED bulbs. For instance, if you purchase a Philips Hue smart bulb from The Home Depot, the only way you’ll be able to activate and adjust the lights is from your phone on the home Wi-Fi. But with a professional system, you can use wall keypads, voice control, remotes, tablets, and remotely control your home’s lights from any location, even across the world.

A Dedicated Lighting Control System

Smart home companies (like Texadia Systems) know how to integrate every light, motorized shade, and device into one convenient control system. This unleashes an entirely personalized experience that can, for instance, tell your lights to turn on when the car pulls into the driveway or automatically adjust the color and brightness according to the time of day

Integrating smart lights and technology across a large house is a time-consuming project for anyone to finish. But as professionals, we know how to install smart technology more accurately than the average integrator or consumer.

With high-end systems like Control4 or Lutron, you’ll access infinite colors and brightness possibilities, fine-tuning and saving your lights’ setting from the app’s color wheel. Want lights to flash red when security alarms go off or the entire first-floor lights to turn on when you return home? We can program any automation, even complex conditional actions, with a centralized smart system.
